If you want to create a passive income for yourself and sell ebooks online, planning, writing, and creating an ebook can be a labor of love. You always want your efforts to result in good sales no matter what you do, and with a few steps to get you on the right track, your efforts can take things beyond awesome sales and achieve that bestselling status. Your ebook can definitely have great sales, and here’s how you can do it:

1. Provide a benefit or two or three.

It takes a little bit of research, but don’t worry, it won’t take tons of time. This is where you analyze your audience and potential book topics and it’s nothing to skip over. In addition to this, a great selling ebook provides a benefit that is in high demand. If you can provide a few, it’s even better. Just remember to stay on topic and view yourself as the problem solver. It’s your duty to find where the pain, fear, or frustration is.

2. Attention grabbing title + a benefit.

There’s that “benefit” word again. The title needs to accomplish many things because it is the first thing people will look at when visiting your website or sales page to consider making a purchase. It should always appeal to emotions, provide a benefit, and grab their attention.

The very popular book Chicken Soup for the Soul tapped into emotions and sparked enough curiosity to get people to look further into the book to see what it’s about.

Another example, “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” was a bestseller because it provided a very clear benefit to the market (in the title itself) – the ability to be liked. Make sure your ebook topic provides a clear benefit to your target market, and with ebooks, it shouldn’t be hard.

3. Get some “cred.”

You can put this in the About Me or About the Author section of your ebook. This can be in the front or at the very end, it’s up to you. It’s  a short bio explaining your knowledge and experience so people know a little bit about who you are. If you don’t have a lot of expertise, accolades, etc., don’t worry about it.  You have some and you have some experience, and that’s what counts. Don’t ever discount yourself because you’re not a guru.

4. Find a promotion strategy. 

Publishing a book is cool, but it won’t sell itself if nobody sees it. You have to promote it. Here are just a few ways to promote to sell ebooks online:

o Get reviews

Let your friends or colleagues give you some feedback on what you have written. Getting these testimonials/reviews are a great way to sell the ebook for you.

o Social networking

If you’re not connecting on social media, it would truly benefit you. Social networking is imperative to selling online. You don’t have to be everywhere, but you need to be where your market is.

o Advertising

There’s so many places you can advertise online. In forums, magazines, other blogs, etc. Check into where your market is and what your budget is for advertising before jumping into anything. Here are a few other advertising outlets;

* Banner
* Ezine
* PPC

o Affiliates

Yes! Get other people to promote for you. You can use Clickbank, JVzoo, E-junkie, 1Shopping Cart, or set up your own affiliate program. Affiliates will not only bring you more customers but your email list will grow also, if you set this up right.

o Joint Venture

Reach out to other people in your niche. Make sure your approach is more about them than you. It just makes sense that way and it will better your chances of having them promote for you. JV’s can be stellar if it’s the right connection with the right audience.

o Word of mouth

It’s traditional but it definitely still works. I get most of my clients due to word of mouth. People are quicker to buy when a trusted source gives them good feedback and the “go ahead”. If you have people in your network that you constantly deal with, this would really help your ebook sales.

o Kindle Publishing

Publishing on Amazon can be helpful in several ways. You can add a free gift in your ebook to build your list. You can pass your book along to book reviewers for commenting. You can gain credibility. You can gain a lot of traffic since Amazon is the largest marketplace on the web. Kindle publishing can help increase your sales tremendously.

All of these marketing strategies are great, but you don’t need to do them all. Create a plan, set goals, test, and track your strategy to see what’s working and what isn’t. This is what separates an amateur from a pro.

5. Get some press.

I’m sure we all know what publicity can do to get you to bestseller status. Submit press releases to distribution sites online. If you don’t know how to write your press release, consider using a service instead. You want this done right. You can take upon yourself to get interviewed on podcasts or radio shows and connect with people online to help you promote your ebook.
