I know quite a few people who have had successful businesses just from word-of-mouth advertising. These people haven’t joined us in the internet world of marketing and yet they continue to thrive off of the most powerful tool on the planet for marketing a business online.

But when you’re an online marketer, you have to do things differently to stay relevant or you’ll fall off quickly. Think about how many advertisements consumers see every single day. It’s quite a few, isn’t it?

So now we have to figure out how to step our game up and get people talking about what we’re doing and why they should be interested in us.

Hmmm, it sounds like a challenging task but it doesn’t have to be.

There’s some brainstorming that can be done, but here are some tips to get you started.

So, how do you get people talking about your business? Well, you’ll need to be unique and get people excited so they want to talk about it.

 Show your passion.

Get crazy but not too crazy.

You don’t have to be scandalous or controversial, even though you will get a lot of attention that way, but do things that will put you in the front line.

All this means is change things around and do interesting things as often as you can. There are so many celebrities that do crazy stuff that always seems to put them in the spotlight.  Marketing your business is no different because you want the spotlight, but not in a negative way.

Your reputation is important and takes years to build. It could all go downhill within seconds if you’re not careful. Society feeds off of negativity and controversy so keep that in mind.

Generating a buzz when marketing a business online is more about generating a buzz in your industry more so than on a more general level. If you do something unique often and change things up as often as you can, you will see your results change.

 Get used to Social Media.

Social Media should be considered one of the life lines of your business. If you don’t have a Facebook fan page yet, it’s time to create one. Make sure it attracts the attention of your target audience.  Instead of something like “Janeen’s Wing Palace” you could name it something like “I Love a Good Buffalo Wing” which will draw buffalo wing fans to it.

Then, you can create a Facebook pay per click ad to draw attention to the page and get fans. Everyone who likes buffalo wings will like your page. It’s just that simple. You also want to find funny pictures, quotes, tips, and anything you find interesting to keep your fans engaged.

If you launch a video, share it on social media sites. A great video will always get people talking.
There are countless ways to go about marketing a business online. You’ll have to be creative, but that’s what makes you unique so no worries. No matter what, you and your business have to stand for something for people to talk about it.
